NEWSFLASH - November 2011 Changes to Process

As of November 2011, the documents needed for an initial appointment to the rank of Clinical Instructor have been simplified. Please note that they do not require the UBC CV for the initial appointment to Clinical Instructor.

They need the “UBC Faculty of Medicine Application for Clinical Faculty Appointment (MDs)” (see below) filled out and a support letter from the Site Chief.

Below, you can download the "Revised Timeline for Initial Clinical Appointments" as well as a "Revised Application for Clinical Faculty Appointment (MDs)" which should be used for new appointees.

For any rank higher than Clinical Instructor they need the UBC CV filled out.

If you have any difficulty with this process, please do not hesitate to contact the Academic Director for Emergency at RCH/ERH.

Note that Clinical Assistant Professor is the level that you must be at to officially vote at UBC Faculty meetings. This will become more significant as the FRCPC Residency expands.

  1. To apply for your first appointment as Clinical Instructor, you may apply any time; takes about a month if all the paperwork is in order
  2. To apply initially to a higher rank (Have you been practicing for a long time with teaching already, but just never applied before? Have you got a Masters or special skills? Have you done other stuff that would justify initial appointment at a higher level?), you can still apply any time, but expect it to take a few months for that initial appointment to come through.
  3. To apply for a promotion, the call for application is now, with a deadline of January 15th. All promotions (as opposed to initial appointments) are granted on July 1st of each year.
